And now, I'll leave the rest to the experts!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who
participated in the competition. I enjoyed going through the entries and seeing
all the creativity in builds and photography. I would also like to thank the
other judges. Working with all of you has been a pleasure and I hope to see you
in the next competition (as a rival)! To wrap up the statements of gratitude, I
would like to thank Brent for organizing the competition and bringing everyone
on the reddit community together.
Before we announce the winners, I would like to
explain the judging process. I set up a spreadsheet with forty-five cells in a
nine by five cell grid. Each judge would write nine names, first, second, and
third place for each category - Advanced, Beginner, and Zaku. Three points were
given for every first place an entry got from a judge, two for second, and one
for first. The highest summed score would be the winner for each category.
Starting with the Beginner category, of
the seven entries, four entries were neck to neck with Kalvin’s MG Duel
Gundam one point shy of third place under Jeff’s HG G-Arcane. Both
entries were shy of only a few points under John’s AGE-2 Dark Hound, the
runner up of the Beginner category. Take note that each of these runner ups
were considered for first place by at least one judge, but only one can be
crowned the victor. That entry happens to be Jolie’s MG Acguy.
Congratulations, Jolie, for winning the Gunpla Lollapalooza Beginner category!
Next up is the Zaku II category. This
section was quite small - only five qualifying entries were in the fray. Coming
in third place, representing spacenoids and their desire to free themselves
from earth’s gravity, it is Paul’s One Year War Veteran! Unfortunately,
Paul’s entry is overshadowed by an ‘amazing’ entry - it is none other than Steve’s
Zaku Amazing! On a serious note, Paul and Steve did an amazing job with
their builds and photography. Despite their efforts, the winner managed to get
the attention of every judge and take a unanimous first place vote. With a
mobile suit as iconic as the RX-78-2, Eric sweeps the competition and
takes gold with the Red Comet’s Zaku II. Congratulations, Eric, for
winning the Gunpla Lollapalooza Zaku II category!
Last, but certainly not least, is the Gunpla
Lollapalooza Advanced category. We received the most entries in this
category with seventeen creative works going head to head. After the dust
settles, we see two distinct battles occurring simultaneously. In the first
battle, with a difference of a single point, we see a beautifully painted Sazabi
Ver. Ka by Tyler go against a fully customized HG Qan[t], better known as
the Aeon Amazing by Ryan. Fighting for third place, Ryan is the one
short by one point and is forced to make a tactical retreat to fourth, leaving
Tyler’s Sazabi with the bronze. In the second battle, we see two mono-eyed
suits fighting for the top: Wesley’s “Dias Gundam,” a Gundam-colored
Rick Dias, versus Heng’s DWAGE, based on the HGUC Dom Tropen. The battle
between seventeen may have left two standing, but with only half the points of
the leader, the Dias Gundam falls behind with the DWAGE standing as the victor.
Congratulations, Heng “KVLTWORX,” on winning the Gunpla Lollapalooza Advanced
category.
Once again, thank you to everyone who
participated in the 2015 Gunpla Lollapalooza, hope to see you in the next
competition! --Gundariumsmith
